How To Feel Confident in Front of a Camera

Before a photoshoot, it’s common to feel nervous and hold a lot of tension in our lips, neck, shoulders, and arms. Taking deep breaths help to calm your nerves and relax your facial muscles. Inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth. This simple exercise will help you relax and look more comfortable in your pictures.

Here are some tips for posing during your photoshoot:

Angle your body - Play with turning your body at a 45-degree angle. This will give your body a more flattering shape and highlight your beautiful curves.

Keep it moving- Make slow movements, instead of standing still, to capture a more natural look in the photos. The more someone moves, the more possibilities to catch beautiful and natural pictures. Don’t be shy. Moving and swaying give the impression of life and movement. Play with your hair, arms, and shoulders.

Create some space between your arms and your body. Pressing your arms to your sides can make them look bigger. Separate your arms from your upper torso—this accentuates your waist and helps define your shape.

Keep soft hands and pointed toes. - try to hold them as gently and naturally as possible. Avoid straightening your fingers or clenching your fists. If your hands are at your face, be sure to not push on your face. Ensure your toes are pointed—this helps elongate your legs.

Pop your hip out- shift your body weight from one hip the the other. This will highlight natural curves and create a more dynamic and attractive look. Do not be afraid to exaggerate 😊

Part your Lips - open your mouth just slightly. An open mouth often helps relax the face and almost looks as if you’ve caught in thought.

Tilt the head Turning your head to the side slightly enhances the dimensions of your facial features, making for a much more interesting composition.

Roll the shoulders back and forth - This rolling action creates interesting composition as well. Your shoulders and collarbones add immense femininity to photos.

Move your arms - Create shapes with your arms. Bring one up to the waist, or both, have one arm in front and the other behind, hold your arms in front, or even try bringing your arms up overhead.

Laugh- Try fake laughing. This almost always ends up with a real laugh. By laughing we relax our bodies and look more at ease. These tend to be the favorite of the shoot because you look happy and natural.

Stand on Your Tippy Toes - It elongates our legs and body and slims us out. During your photoshoot, if you’re doing a few shots in sneakers, barefoot, sandals, or any type of flat, I suggest standing on your tippy toes. This will do the exact same thing that high heels do for our bodies!

Skirt flipping – do a little twisting action, small movements. Try to be as graceful as possible.

Allowing yourself to enjoy the moment is key to feeling confident in front of the camera. So, go ahead, make fun of yourself, laugh at yourself, and just have a good time. Pose like a pro! Even if we aren't professional models, we can still channel our inner model when it's time to take photos. Embracing the "fake it till you make it" attitude can often work wonders 😊
